The Grade 7 students are investigating different kinds of rocks in Science
class. They are learning that the rocks are in groups based on their
characteristics. The very common rocks that they can observe are granite and
limestone. They are using magnifying lens to see the particles or grains of
these rocks. They also are identifying the colours and shapes of those
particles. Then, they can even touch the rocks to feel the surface of the rocks.
They must discuss their observations to their groupmates in order to interact
their different ideas. Finally, they put the rocks into a beaker of water. They
can see if there is a difference when the rock is in the water or when it is
not. In this kind of activity, students are exploring the different rocks and
their characteristics since the ground we walk on is firm because there are
rocks under the surface of the Earth.
