On Monday, grade 9 students had a break from their busy schedule
and went on a field trip... well, not so much a field, but the center of Hiroshima City,
where they learned a bit of history and some of the establishments
that keep society functioning.
The students broke up into four groups, and each group visited one place of their choice each.
Group A went to the prefectural police station, where they learned
about the workings of the police.
Group B went to the courthouse, where they participated in a model courtroom.
Group C went to the mint, where they learned about how coins are made.
Group C went to the Japanese national bank, where they learned about the role it plays
in the economy. All of the groups went to the Peace Memorial Museum in the Peace Park,
to learn about the history of Hiroshima and the effects of the atomic bomb.
Perhaps, though, the highlight of the trip was visiting the NHK building,
where students could scuba dive with fish on a big 3D screen
and experience the high tech wonders of the newsroom.
It was a long day, but the weather was good, and everyone went home tired,
but satisfied with the day's events.
